Jewellery Valuations

We value your jewellery in front of you

Our valuations are recognized by all Insurance Companies

You receive a detailed certificate for you and your Insurance Company

We do not over value, this will only cause a false economy and higher premiums

By appointment only

FEES: 1% OF THE VALUE + VAT

(£10000.00 Valuation = £120.00)

Q) Why do I need a valuation

A) A valuation will be required by your Insurance Company in order to
place your jewellery at an agreed figure on an all risks basis

Q) I had a valuation carried out ten years ago, why do I need to have my jewellery re-valued

A) You should have your jewellery valued every 3/5 years otherwise you could be under insured,
which means that you will be penalized by your Insurance Company, when you make a claim

Q) Can I use your valuation certificate with any Insurance Company

A) Yes, but be very aware of their claims procedure, we are asking all our customers
to make sure that their Insurance Company does not insist that any loss must be
replaced with their appointed jeweller only

The Insurance Replacement Scam

WE ASK ALL OUR CUSTOMERS TO BE VERY AWARE WHERE YOU
PLACE YOUR HOUSEHOLD AND ALL RISKS (JEWELLERY) INSURANCE

WHEN YOU HAVE A CLAIM THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL TRY AND
FORCE YOU TO REPLACE YOUR JEWELLERY WITH THEIR APPOINTED
JEWELLER ONLY OR HAVE YOUR CLAIM REDUCED BY UPTO 40%

WE ARE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, THE OMBUDSMAN HAS CLEARLY
STATED THAT INSURANCE COMPANIES CANNOT FORCE ANYONE INTO A
REPLACEMENT WITH THEIR APPOINTED JEWELLERS

CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY NOW, ASK THEM IF YOU WILL BE FORCED
TO REPLACE WITH A NOMINATED JEWELLER, IF THEY SAY YOU WONT BE,
GET IT IN WRITING. IF THEY SAY YOU WILL, THEN PLACE YOUR
BUSINESS ELSE WHERE

YOUR PREMIUMS ARE BASED ON THE VALUE NOT ON THE DISCOUNTS
ACHIEVED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY

IF YOU ARE MAKING A CLAIM AND ARE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS, WE HAVE
PRODUCED A TEMPLATE LETTER FOR ALL OUR CUSTOMERS TO SEND TO
THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY

Insurance Claims Department

Dear Sirs

Policy:

With reference to our recent telephone discussions concerning the above claim.
I have now heard from my own jeweller that I do not have to replace my jewellery
with your appointed jeweller, or to be offered a cash settlement on the basis of the
discount you are being offered by your appointed jeweller.

I understand it is your policy to outsource claims to third parties, where you receive
up to 40% discount on replacement items. There is no reference to this in my policy
documents; it clearly states that the contract is between the Policyholder and the Insurer.

The Financial Ombudsman has published a ruling on this subject
(Annual Report 1987/Ombudsman News 2001/Retail Jeweller 2006/2007)

This clearly states that Insurers are barred from forcing consumers to use retailers
with whom they have tie-ups. In addition it states that the policyholder has the righ
to a replacement settlement with his own jeweller and this should be to the value of
the claim not the value of the discount arranged.

Therefore I request a replacement with my own jeweller to the full insured value in
full settlement of this claim.

Yours Faithfully

THE INSURANCE REPLACEMENT SCAM

This is the actual letter that was placed in the Retail Jeweller
(Trade Publication February 2007)

Allow me to introduce myself, I have been in this trade for over 30 years,
and I am very passionate about every aspect, but enough is enough.
I have to confess that I actually started the whole replacement business as
it is today back in 1980, alongside a jewellery claims consulting service,
handling all jewellery claims across the UK. I now own my own jewellery
shop, and to be honest would now like to undo, what I originally set up.

All of the independent jewellers are sick and tired of losing their
customers jewellery claim business to the multiples, as the insured are told
that they have to purchase their jewellery at appointed jewellers only. This
is of course all about money and the large discounts that the multiples
offer to the Insurance industry in most cases 40%. When I tell customers of
this they are horrified and rightly so, were they forced where to place
their insurance business, and did they get 40% off their premiums, I think not.

The real losers are the insured and us the independent jeweller, there has
been much talk in the past, everyone complaining, but enough of talk, lets
do something about it.

I have helped many of my customers over the past few years, and been able to
secure their replacement business with myself by simply educating my
customers, and giving them the correct information to make the Insurance
Company back down.

We the independents are the real voice of our trade, if we all act on this
and educate our customers to what is going on then we can get our business
back, this is easy to say so I have produced a sign for my window basically
telling the public that they do not have to accept the Insurance Companies
nominated jeweller, and relevant information from various financial/ombudsman
bodies, I have also set up a standard letter outlining their rights, and to have the
replacement business secured to myself, with very little or no discounts!!!

If we all act on this, educate our customers then we will get our business
back. I will be more than happy for any jeweller to email myself for a copy
of my window sign and relevant information, if we all have the same sign and
information we can unite and do something about this.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH LETS GET OUR BUSINESS BACK.
